My inspiration for this work is the actual Whitewater Hotel at 226 West Whitewater Street in Whitewater Wisconsin. Built in 1894, it has many rumored tales from the past. It is now home to The SweetSpot Cafe where I have spent a lot of time.
This is a one-of-a-kind imprint pulled from an inked surface. In this case, the first imprint was used as the background for a color, mixed-media creation. Rather than wipe the plate clean after that first run through the press, I cleaned the ink off by pressing it into another sheet of paper, which is referred to as a "ghost print".
*I gave my 15-year old grandson a summer job uploading item data to my Etsy shop. He is an aspiring writer, so one of his duties was to write his thoughts about my artwork: ✒︎ Tybo’s Tall Tales: This artwork was inspired by the legend of the ghost at whitewater hotel. The story says that a woman died while living in the hotel, and after she was not remembered, she let her vengeful rage haunt the visitors. To this day, no one remembers her name, and yet she still lurks in the shadowy corners of the coffee shop that took her final resting place...
