"Scorch" is an original acrylic painting on paper, then adhered to a stretched canvas.

A friend of mine shared some pieces of the paper used for mattress labels that she was given from a relative who works in the mattress-making business. We're always trying new surfaces to paint on, so we thought we'd experiment. I ran mine through the wash machine and dryer to see how well it would hold up. It did okay but was quite wrinkled, so I tried to iron it - this is the result! Rather than throw it away, I glued the scorched piece onto other paper to stabilize the ragged edges, and then adhered both onto a canvas cradle (stretched on wood frame). It took to acrylic paint quite nicely.

The finished piece is sealed with a matte medium glaze and measures 9 by 12 inches. Wired and ready to hang.

✒︎ Tybo’s Tall Tales*: This picture is supposed to look like the scorch marks on top of wood, but personally, I see this as when you spill coffee atop your pants, and it scorches your skin. it would give it a more practical meaning.
