I call this little painting "Sheep Trees" because that's what it reminds me of. I began working on some bubbly surfaced watercolor paper, which caused the nubby texture. But this paper seemed limp to me, so I adhered it to canvas with matte medium to be stretched on a wood support frame. Before stretching and stapling I sewed the paper to the canvas for good measure. I really like that stitching and enhanced it in the design. This small gem is wonderful to hold and feel. It needs just the perfect little space to hang.
A note on the idea for this. It began as a challenge by my artist friends to use a certain color in a painting - that certain color being the one that we've seen in the trees of Colorado when they turn in the fall. I don't remember the name of the tree, just the challenge described as a sort of peachy, pink, salmon hue. I don't know if I met the challenge; I got sidetracked with the making of this small artwork.
