Kite Flyers

The inspiration for this painting came when I was out doing errands one afternoon. Driving through a quiet neighborhood, I saw a boy holding the leash to a big furry dog and a girl holding onto a kite. They were walking along the sidewalk. I was mesmerized by them and wanted to stop my car at a distance and take a photo so I could capture some of the details of the surroundings to compose a picture later. They moved very quickly towards the hill they were intent to climb; I almost lost site of them before I was able to capture a few reference photos. I needed to keep my distance so as not to distract them and also to preserve their privacy. My painting became more of a silhouette of this observation that warmed my heart.


*I gave my 15-year old grandson a summer job uploading item data to my Etsy shop. He is an aspiring writer, so one of his duties was to write his thoughts about my artwork. I try not to tell him too much about what's behind my work; I enjoy seeing it fresh through his eyes:
