"You Can Go All Around the World" is an original oil painting I made in 1991. I'm a big fan of Janis Joplin's music, and when I came across a small globe on a chain it made me think of her singing "Cry Baby" to a live crowd (see lyrics below). I created the flying figure with found metal objects glued to stretched canvas. I then added gobs of oil paint to show movement and gesture. I structured a wood frame around the painting and also designed the rooftop shape with a hook from which to hang the world. I hand-printed some of the lyrics on the back of the canvas. Wired and ready to hang.
"Cry Baby" lyrics:
...You can go all around the world
Trying to find something to do with your life, baby,
When you only gotta do one thing well,
You only gotta do one thing well to make it in this world, babe.
You got a woman waiting for you there,
All you ever gotta do is be a good man one time to one woman
And that'll be the end of the road, babe...

✒︎ Tybo’s Tall Tales*: This image looks like a birdhouse with a doorway to a new place you've never seen, with beauty, and terror, kindness, and selfishness, all for you to explore and choose your path in the perfect life.
