Path of Least Resistance

Original acrylic on 24” x 18” stretched canvas. The wood floater frame has a black matte finish and measures 25.5" tall by 19.5" wide by 2" thick. Wired and ready to hang.

I began the design for this painting by marking off a grid, then sketched a woman's face with charcoal in the center of the canvas referencing a photo of my mom when she was a young mother. As a halo over her head I used lettering stencils to print "Well, what was I suppose to do?" I used bobby pins and ink to press Xs in some of the squares. My mom used bobby pins to make pin curls in her hair and in mine. Up the left side, across the top and down the right side I stamped letters that spell out: THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE

This could have many different meanings, like "Well was I just supposed to leave the dog in the car?!", or "Well what did you expect when all we have is spaghetti sauce and eggs?!" Any way you look at it, it always has a deep place in our hearts.
