While hiking with my sister in Colorado we walked through areas of forest that had burned. I collected some of the charcoal that had fallen off the charred trees. It was this charcoal that I used to begin this painting. I had marked the drawing underneath with a measured grid. Some of the gridlines show through and were the inspiration for the window panes in the sun. The sun ray design came from tracing an object I found on the ground while out walking one day; it's arch shape with cut-out rectangles appeals to me. I'm not sure what it is, but it has inspired designs in many of my paintings. I've included a picture of this found object in the photos.
*I gave my 15-year old grandson a summer job uploading item data to my Etsy shop. He is an aspiring writer, so one of his duties was to write his thoughts about my artwork:
✒︎ Tybo’s Tall Tales*: This painting is an imaginative piece, yet I feel there's a bit of human to it. This sun was so sick of the "Perfect day" stereotype, and decided he would let himself be comfortable instead. He wore his striped jacket and said, "Screw you guys, I like setting myself." So it was sunset the whole day, and no one got any sleep that night.#Sunday #SunEmpowerment
