Playtime for me is experimenting with very small watercolor paintings. I purchase boxes of 5 x 7 inch blank artist stationary with envelopes. I tape them on boards and try various ideas. I use these finished notecards to send to family and friends with Happy Birthday messages or just notes to touch base for lots of reasons.
This painting was particularly fun because I started with a simple vertical pencil line. Then it occured to me to counter that with a curved contour, and that just naturally led me into drawing a sailboat. I have done my share of sailing on small boats and love their shapes and how they are dependent on wind & water.
Tentatively laying color around this design with a flat wet brush completed this one with the feel of Smooth Sailing. I sent the original with a note to a loved one going through a rough time. But I love it so much that I had prints made to send to others and to offer on my shop.

This is the first time I used Canva to print my cards, and I'm pleased with the quality!
